Raxles

Did you guys know Raxles (www.raxles.com) isn't making half shafts for the Mark VIII? No? Well, they're not. :(

Anyone know of an alternative?

I talked to Mark Williams ( http://www.markwilliams.com ) and they can custom build a set for around 2300 clams.

I'm not sure I'm ready to spend that much on a set of half shafts... bulletproof as they may be.

I have a set of Raxles on my Mark. They are made for a SC T-Bird, and are holding up just fine with 400+rwhp so far for the past couple years. :)

There is a difference between out Mark half shafts and all the others. When I lived in FL I dealt with Raxles a lot.

First off, you stock shafts in the Marks are the strongest ones built, then comes the Tbird SC and then your standard V8 MN12 and last the V6 MN12s.

I have seen and done it myself on my own Mark and Tbird, the splines will twist until they snap. When I broke my last set on the Mark they twisted almost 3/4s around before breaking. I couldn't get the hubs off because of this and had to replace them. Since I had to replace them I went ahead and did the Cobra conversion.

The Mark and SC shafts have extra hardening treatment making them stronger besides being larger in diameter. But the real weak point is where they neck down for the splines.

Anyways, talking with Raxles I found that they used the Mark splines until they ran out and then would use the Tbird SC units. I offered to send them a set of good Mark shafts so that they could build me a new set but they wouldn't do it and so sold me a set of SC units. They then told me that the Mark shafts were getting too hard to find since the warehouses were being depleted and they expected the same with the SC shafts soon afterwards. When this happens they said they would stop building these shafts for us. Looks like this has now happened.

As for Ebay stuff, I bet you that those are just V8 and V6 Tbird shafts. If they are they won't last long under some serious power.

The SC T-Bird Raxles are the same dimensions as the Mark VIII half shafts, except they have a thicker bar between the inner and outer joints. They do not add, or free up any space in the wheel well.

My rears are 18x9, and I run a 285 tire that is inside the wheel well arch - they do not hang out, and the car is lowered, and driven just like my signature picture. The fenders were not rolled, and the sway bar was not modified. Here is link to all the info regarding the wheels if you want to read all about it. :)

If I snap my Raxles, I will probably see if this company can make me some high power axles, since they already cater to the Cobra crowd: http://www.driveshaftshop.com/

Lonnie, I have ONE brand new Raxles shaft from a long time ago. I bought three of them from Marty a few years back. Wanna trade it for some tunes? :D

Those allow you to use a wider wheel aswell, right?

Halfshafts do not effect the wheel distance at all. The just attach the differential to the rear spindle making the wheels drive.

Its all about the Offset. :)
