Really trick car

Had a ride today in a really neat car. Too small ... way too small for me, but if 5'7" and under 175 Lbs, the Mazda RX-8 is a neat looking car, handles like a true sports car, and looks lioke a coupe, but is actually a 4-door. Could not find a single flaw in it. Beautiful paint (Dark Grey) with a matching interior, trimmed in bright red. Looks expensive, but actually isn't.
I really liked it. Nice place to visit ... not permanently! Anyone else like them?

RE: Really trick car

I really like the new RX8. But is somewhat pricy for its perfomance. I heard it handles like no other! But straight line performance is poor since it can get spanked by a 350z and any V8 mustang. Not only that but the Gas milage is horrid on that car. Ppl are getting about 15 city and low 20s highway. They run for about 30k with some neat options a little pricy if you ask me. I've sat in one, and i'm 6'4" 200 pounds. There is not much headroom but leg room was MORE than in my mark. Same thing i can say for the prelude btw.

RE: Really trick car

I think the RX-8 is really more about "looks"; and handling and uniqueness, than 0-60 times. It's my friend's car & we just took a leisurly drive and more people looked at it, than ever looked at my MK 8 or the Town Car... It got ascMcLaren-type of looks ! Everywhere we cruised, people were turning & looking. It has a nice ride, too. I'd bet alot of cars would whip it, but to me - at least - it's like a bouluvard cruiser to be seen in. (A parade car (without the parade!! :) )

RE: Really trick car

i really liked the sports car aspects of it like the seat and the arrangement of the cabin. i hear the mileage issues can be solved by a factory ecu reflash. the looks are alright but can easily be made to look 10 times better with one of the hundreds of body kits made for it. wish it came with a turbo. o well.

RE: Really trick car

"It got ascMcLaren-type of looks"....that's the funniest thing I read all day!! (and an insult to the RX-8, as the RX-8 isn't bland and doesn't look like another car from the same stable as the ASC's do). But Sandy..although it is rather nice, and I agree 0-60 is not the mission, what is the HUGE drawback to this car is its lack or TORQUE. Cruising cars need torque, and this one has NONE. An absolutely embarassing 152TQ@5500RPM!! How pathetic! They should have turboed it..at least it would have some power...

RE: Really trick car

Ahhh, but you're wrong Ron! Take a ride with me in the ASC. Everywhere people look, point & stare. Red lights & gas stations are aklways an event of an avalanch of questions & thumbs-up!

Top up, they "see" a familair looking (but different) Mustang wearing a Mercedes 3-window roof, and top down, it's a 2-seater, with no exposed "boot" piled up on the rear deck. Deep throaty rumble calls attention to it, and the Sikkens brilliant paint (6 coats) dazzles 'em. The 10-degree laid back w'shield grabs their attention too that it definately not a Mustang. Front fascia & rear taillamps are also unique and the whole thing sits 3.5 inches from the ground. Bland, Ron? Nope, not at all.

RE: Really trick car

Well for me they just didn't look different enough from the Mustang to be exciting. Kinda like a Cougar/Thunderbird thing of years past. Different cars...but still the same. That's the way I felt about the ASC. Although I must admit that I find your Capri ASC appealing...

RE: Really trick car

I don’t know, but it looks like a teenagers car. Don’t know why, but that’s my impression of it.

RE: Really trick car

That's funny, when I think about it, Ron ~ because the "ascMcLaren Appearance Package" on the Mercury Capri Hatchback Coupe had a MSRLP of $3,850.00 and a dealer invoice of $3,350.00, while the "ascMcLaren Alteration/Conversion Package" on the 1984 to 1986 Mercury Capri & the 1987 to 1990 Ford Mustang, (the red car above) had a MSRLP of $11,735.00 and a dealer invoice of $9,975.00.
What this all means to illustrate is that sometimes money spend has nothing to do with another person's feelings toward the car.

The Coupe is faster, due to much lighter weight, a B303 cam, a 3.73:1 gearing, and many other changes, not included in the roadster.

There were a handful (5) of the roadsters made that were sent to Saleen to become ascMcLaren/Saleens, but - as you might suspect, all 5 of them have been destroyed & junked. (Darn trees jumpin' out in the road, again).

I never seen so many middle-aged, gray-bearded, pony-tailed Mustang owners 'till Carlisle! :7 Dang kids!

Oh, the RX8... yep, been there to look at it too. I always loved the RX7 and nearly owned one once, but the successor definitely filled the 7's shoes IMHO. I was afraid to drive it without adult supervision(wife). I can't be trusted at car lots alone! ;)

RE: Really trick car

jd, since you were here, I got very old, bought a Town Car and fight off daily urges to drive to Newark International Airport and seek fares :D
Also quit smoking cigarettes totally, so that brings on }( feelings!! "HIP" I don't need. Better knees would help :+

RE: Really trick car

/me looks at the smoke hanging from the corner of his mouth...

More power to ya, man. Next thing for me to quit! :( :) :(

RE: Really trick car

Down to one (1) :9 :9 Cigar a day, at EXACTLY 7PM !! No cigarettes, and Karen ALSO quit, with me!! The first couples days not too bad, then by the 4th day you climb walls. By the 10th day it's getting better. At the 2-week mark, we had the ultimate test! Karen's brother died, and that brought on alot of stress, but we made it through by fighting with one & other ! }( :B

RE: Really trick car

Sandy,

I just prefer the Capri since there are so few Capris running around, let alone an ASC Capri. I can't say the same for ragtop Mustangs. Dime a dozen here. But the Capris? Rare as hell here. This year I have seen a total of ONE Capri, and it wasn't even an RS model. So the rarer car to me is more appealing, even if it still looks like a Capri. Get it?

Ron, to go:
http://www.foureyedpride.com
register & tell them I sent you. Red Carpet rolls out 4-U
You'll get addicted fast. I am not on there to much, other than in the statistics dept. I used to be there constantly, but ... well, sorta kinda left to start the ascMcLaren board. You want Capris? There are 1,000 there, every year, model, engine, customs, limited editions, prototypes + more.
