Rear End Noise - Is this common

I have a 2001 LS v8, It has a somewhat loud rear end noise. I changed tires to see if it would change. No Change. Anyone else have this? If so what was done to fix it? I Suspect (Rear Wheel Bearings)

One way to test to see if its wheel bearings is to drive at about 35 mph and slalom the car back and for to set the weight on either side. Once you do this, the noise will either get louder or quieter, so if you turn the wheel left and the weight of the car sets onto the right side of the car and the noise gets louder, than you have a bad wheel bearing on the right side. Vice versa for the other side.

LS Rear End Noise

It's rear wheel drive with independent axles.

I tried the 35 mph noise check. No difference in the noise.

It's a humming /whinning noise. It get's lounder the faster you go. No Difference if on gas, coasting or slowing down. Only difference is when the speed changes.

Changed from summer tires to winter tires = no difference in noise. Car has 80,000 miles.

I guess I might need to take it to the dealer.

It still sounds like a wheel bearing so far.

The side to side weight test like J suggested can be hard to decide sometimes because it's hard to put that weight on one side of the car long enough during normal driving to decide if the noise really changes.

What I have found that works out fairly well is to listen while going around a fairly sharp curve, like on a clover-leaf on-ramp. Try that on curves going either way and you might be able to notice a difference then.
