rear neon tail light

Have seen the many strings on this subject. Has anyone come up with a way to convert to a straight 12v bulb system? My light quit due to moisture inside the assembly, and since the brake lights work, I was thinking of just removing the lense and blacking out the inside. Since the car is black it might look cool.

I would first check with the "local authorities" and see if it is legal. No sense doing this if your bound to get a "fix it" ticket!
