Rear shocks

NO, The old bushings are shot. I have new upper mounts. When I pulled the old mount from the stud on the shock, the inner sleeve of the old bushing stayed on the stud and I can't get it off. So I bought new non-ARC shocks.

The new mount won't go on the upper shock stud with the old inner sleeve still "welded" to it.

OK.... I get ya now.... you STILL could have heated it up good and loosened it that way, but if those are the original shocks, you needed new ones anyway! Keep those old upper shock mounts - ya never know WHEN you might find a use for them. Burn the old rubber off 'em and paint them and they'll be ready!

When you put the Monroe shocks on, are you suppose to burn the rubber out of the old mounts and use the bushings that come with the new shocks? The studs on the new shocks are too skinny for the sleeve in the new mounts. Did they give me the wrong shocks or what.

Does anyone know the correct part number for the replacement non-ARC shocks?

I just now called the parts store to check the numbers and they said that the shocks I got yesterday were for a Mark VII. The only thing they have for the Mark VIII is a coil conversion kit for $500 or so bucks.

He said to come in and search for a shock that has the right diameter stud for my mounts. What are some compatible shocks? This is way more difficult than it should be!

Here's my write up from 2005. I used new upper mounts. The shock you need is mentioned. I don't know if the part number is still current after 4 years.

It still looks like the threaded stud is too small for the new mount. Doesn't it wobble around in the sleeve of the mount? Shouldn't it fit snug?

I also noticed that you didn't use the lower cupped washer between the shock and the mount. After a while wouldn't that force the sleeve to seperate from the bushing under the repeated force?

If I remember correctly, when I installed the 03 Cobra Bilsteins, they stud was too small as well, but as long as you used the cupped washers and tightened it good, there was no issues.

If you are referring to the photos, those are just a site I linked to for images; not my work.

I used the t-bird nut (and shock) with the Lincoln mounts and washers. The T-bird washer was too big to fit through the fender hole.

My bad! Anyway, I think I am going to this bolt supplier in town to see if he has a sleeve that will fit the shock and go into the mount as well, just to snug it up a bit. If that fails I'll just do what J said and tighten the crap out of it.

Lol, I didn't have to tighten the crap out of it! Just did a normal job, its not going to come loose.

Well, tighten it good and tighten the crap out of it, close enough.

Thanks. I'll still try to get a sleeve first.

Ya know, I'm kinda suprised that ford didn't come up with a different mount for a non-ARC shock for the Mark. I said kinda, on the other hand I can see them trying to make it difficult to maintain our cars as well. Bast#%ds!~
