remote starter

I took my Mark viii to get a remote start today and they said they needed another key, I only have one, but they said ford told them they stopped making them and that the locksmith wanted $80 for it, was I getting ripped off? I told them no and said I would reschedule. I have a friend who is a manager at a local Ford dealership, he's going to check tomorrow but....
 
yea I called and they told me it is $35 for the key and $95 for one hour labor to program it, thats insane
 
Keys are expensive.

What I did was made a non-PATS copy of the key ($5 at any lock & key place) and put my PATS (factory) key in the box under the dash. I hooked up a button on the kick panel to activate the box that the remote starter uses to send the signal to the PATS module in the car. Then I could use a regular key to start the car, I just had to hold down the button on the footwell to send the PATS signal whenever I wanted to start the car.
