RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

Well..with racing season bearing down on me, I needed something a little heavier duty than the Mark to tow my race trailer. This might be overkill, since my trailer loaded down weighs less than 1500lbs. It is a VERY slick trailer..you can drive on/drive off WITHOUT unhitching. Really nice. (I've included a couple of pics)

Anyways, it's a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.2L V8. Color is Driftwood on grey leather. Truck came with some nice accessories: Wagg pushbar with PIAA Dual Fog & Driving lights. Yokohama Geolander tires. 16" aluminum rims. K&N drop in filter and Magnaflow exhaust. I don't know jack about stereos, but it has a Pioneer Premier head with In-Dash CD, plus a 12 CD changer in trunk. It also has 2 big amps under the seats, plus 2 10" subs in the back. (which are coming out). There are tweeters in the front and back, plus additional speakers. He seemed to like his music. Truck is as clean as I have seen for one this old. (almost as clean as a Block Jeep maybe?) It was detailed monthly, and oil sprayed/rust proofed yearly. It will serve me well, I'm sure. I hope gas mileage isn't too bad. Will be seeing what I can do to increase mileage. Anyone know about these things?

Check out http://jeepsunlimited.com I have a 01 Grand Cherokee and have found many useful things on this site. But beware most of the people who post are very inmature and always have smart a$$ answers for everything. I guess what I am trying to say is it's no LOD I use the same name there as I do here so you might see me there too. lol good luck, it looks like a nice Grand.

RE: RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

why are u getting rid of the subs? what kind are they? what kind of amps are those also? i couldnt read the name.

RE: RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

Looks alot better than I expected, Ron ~ from your description on the phone. Those amps under the seats are identical towhat's in Matt's Cherokee, with the exception of the purple writing. I think that they were added after she was built, using over-the-counter Jeep authorized parts from the Jeep parts department. Sounds great, right?
Keeping that thing on the front? :( (or taking it off? :) )
Good to have 'ya in the American Motors Family!!

RE: RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

A friend of mine had a 1995 Grand Cherokee w/ the 5.9. it was loaded to the hilt. While reading a sign that read "caution, bridge may be icy" one winter, they realized what that meant. they managed to get every corner of the Jeep into the gaurdrail during a nice 720 at 45 mph.

I was amazed at how well the Jeep took the hit. it wasnt totaled by any means. The airbags all deployed, and it looked like it went through some torture in a crusher, but it stayed on all fours, and cost a little over $13k to fix.

So, looks like they are pretty durable, and dont cost much to repair if they run into a few immovable objects.

That is a real nice package you have going there. I got sleepy just by looking at those front seats. Ride safe, and have fun. looks like you wont have to worry about your tow vehicle. Those Jeeps get it done.

I would opt for a Mid-size S.U.V. for a tow vehicle, but unfortunately, the combined weight of our trailer with the racecar on it, and the support equipment, would be too heavy for a Jeep G.C., so we went with the "Big Boy"(F-250 4x4, 460 cu.in., powered by propane). its for sale BTW, to anyone looking for a serious tow vehicle. We recently sold both racecars. I also have a 18' dragmaster trailer for sale, but this is Rocket's thread, so I will stop pilfering it now.

RE: RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

how much for the propane truck?

Grand Cherokees are nice vehicles. For a tow vehicle, though, i'd probably opt for something with a full frame. 1500 lbs doesn't really require a "tow vehicle" though, just something with a little interior room and a hitch :).

I'd sure like to pick up a 1 ton diesel dually 4x4 crew cab for a tow vehicle/winter truck... either an F350 or a Ram.

RE: RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

The subs in the back read "Kaption" on them. I'm taking out the subs in the back since: 1) I'm not an audiphile/loud tunes guy 2) They take up space 3) Trish is deaf, so she won't need em either!

RE: RRocket's New Tow Vehicle

Dave $4500.00 I can send you info if you are really interested.

Saturday, I spent $1.55/gal!!!

Around here, $1.55 for a gallon of gas isn't all that unusual. Does propane get you as far per gallon as gas? I don't know of anywhere around here to fill up on propane, anyway, unless you can use the same stations as the tanks for the BBQ.

It's too far away and too much money for me to buy anyway.
