Seat motor repair tips (long)

My seats work great, but the driver's power seat in my wife's 2001 Windstar van doesn't work, it blows fuses the moment I put them in. I wonder if I can do this procedure to the seat in her van? Luckily it stopped working when it was in the position she's comfortable with. I can't drive the van with the seat so close to the steering wheel!
