Secondary Air Injection Pump

I recently had an engine light come on in my 2001 Lincoln LS. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a "Secondary Air Injection Pump." Has anybody else encountered this problem? It does not effect driveability, but I live in Ohio and it will not pass E-Check with the light on. The dealer wants $480 to replace the part. Is there any way around this, or am I going to have to cough up the money?

Well, you could replace it yourself? Here is where its located and they have been known to fail or get damaged.

Looks like its in the driver's side fender well/bumper area. Should be VERY easy to replace once you get the part..........but you'll have to clear the codes after you're done too. Might be in your best interest to pick up a code reader too, they are cheap now.

Thanks for the help! Where did you get that diagram from? It seems like it would be helpful when I decide to undertake this project. I found an A.I.R. Pump (which I am assuming is the right part) for $137.

That is correct! Just save the picture to your computer and print it out. Trust me, a job like this is hard to mess up! :)
