thanks,
zack

RE: shift kits?

jmod or baumann, the only ones I would do. I have a baumann I love it, it basically accomplishes the same thing as a jmod.

RE: shift kits?

I had a Bauman kit in my possession at one time, and after reading the directions, descided to do the J-mod because it costs about 1/3 the price and accomplishes the same thing.

RE: shift kits?

it looks like i want to do the valve body kit right? also where can i find the jmod kit everyone is saying it is less money and since im an 18 year-old highschool kid money is a slight problem with car payments and all. thanks -zack

RE: shift kits?

also i thought i knew what tranny was in these cars and now it is making me thing i have a 93 could u tell me what tranny is in there also? thanks again -zack

RE: shift kits?

All Mark VIIIs had the 4R70W tranny. Sometimes mistakenly called the AODE? Anyways, call Greg at Baumann - he knows exactly not only what you need but what you want.

For the lowdown on the J-mod - see... www.tccoa.com and look for their tech articles on the tranny.

RE: shift kits?

since we're on the topic, I am planning on doing the JMod to my '95 but am a little confused. So you don't put in the 1-2 accumulator's bottom spring and you dont put any spring in the 2-3 accumulator, but do you have to still drill into the valve body? Would just removing the springs stiffen up the shifts or do you have to drill the valve body. thanks guys. Sorry if these are obvious questions, I am just not too sure about transmissions and dont want to screw something up since this car is my daily driver. I just wanna a little frimer shifts and a little longer life from the trans.

RE: shift kits?

If you do either the J-mod or the Baumann shift kit, drilling the valve body separator plate AND changing or omitting the accumulator springs alter the shifts of the transmission. I believe Craig(BlackIceLSC) originally left out the 1-2 bottom spring in his J-mod and elected later to put it back in.

I'm not 100% sure of the J-mod but I know on the Baumann shift kit I installed, I went with the max(level 5) shift settings but the mid level torque settings according to the instructions. This required a modified 1-2 bottom spring and leaving in the 2-3 spring. Normal driving is not harsh shifting but WOT is neck snapping. Perfect for what I wanted.

RE: shift kits?

I left the springs out of my 1-2 accumulator completely, and IIRC, jsut have one spring in the 2-3. My car does shift rather hard, hard enough to bark my Nitto DR's when I still had the stock gears in it.

I think you transposed your accumulators. ;) The 1-2 accumulator has a top and bottom spring(2 springs). The 2-3 accumulator only has the 'bottom' return spring(1 spring).

RE: shift kits?

So, I looked at my parts, I just have a different spring in the 2-3, no springs in the 1-2.
