Shifter button flying...

When the Gen1 shifter button goes shooting out and ends up on the floor mat by the drivers door, does that mean:

1. Order a new button?

or

2. Order a new shifter assembly?

I went to put the car in Park and got a thumb full of hole and spring! That was after a 1 hour highway cruise that had the CE light flashing on and off like a Christmas tree. But, that would be the story for another post, after I check what code has been thrown...

Thanks in advance,

Jon

RE: Shifter button flying...

I have heard of it, but not had it happen to me. My manual(s) show no parts breakdown of the shifter except for the O/D switch, so I can't help. ::uh::

RE: Shifter button flying...

Try a local dealer for a parts breakdown of the shifter. You may be able to just buy the shifter button?

RE: Shifter button flying...

The button flew out of my shifter handle. I placed the button back in the hole and when I got home removed the handle and took the spring out of the top of the handle. I put everything back together without the spring and never had any more problems. I kept forgetting to order a new knob.

RE: Shifter button flying...

You can probably use some kind of aftermarket shift knob or shifter on it. It might be tough to find one that isn't ricey and looks good though.
