Shifter swap.

Hi everyone,

I'm the owner of a 2000 LS V6 and I am thinking about changing my standard automatic transmission shifter for a select shift model but only if it's a minor operation.

Can someone tell me if the only difference is in the shifter assembly?

Thanks.

It is still convenient to pre-select a lower gear prior to re-accelerate while going out of a curve.... so, is the thing is only electronic and controling by the shifter himself, I still want to do the swap...

Looks to me that the transmission is controlled via the ECU depending on what gear you select it in with the select shift. (just like shifting it into 1st/2nd by hand)

You will have to install the select shift transmission, the entire engine wiring harness, the computer for both the transmission AND engine, install the appropriate shifter, and whatever console/shifter pieces are needed. If I were to estimate, you're probably looking at atleast 2-3K for parts alone.

On a side note.....ITS A V-6!!! :) How about you sell it, buy a Mark 8, and then ask us how to do a T-56 swap. (Viper/Cobra transmission)

Hihi! Thanks for the answer about the ecu, that's what I needed to know. For the Mark, I owned one and somes V8 Mustangs a couple of years ago and it's over for me. For now, I prefer the european drive of my LS with his gas-friendly V6 engine. Instead of spending more cash into it, I'll buy another car sooner.
