Shortening M8 axles (Spline/main shaft diameter question)

Someone on another board I am on is putting an M8 rear into their Volvo, however the axles are to long. Does anyone know if the spline diameters are smaller than the "main" shaft diameters so they can be shortened? Thanks!

you dont want to shorten the splines...

if ANYTHING you would shorten the axle tube, which would be a MUCH easier task than working in the spline area.

axle tube? on a mark VIII?? you must have had one of those rair marks with came with the 8.8" live axle from a mustang??

the axle's arent tube's, i'm sure you didnt mean that anyway lol the axles shafts in the marks are solid bars. but you can easily shorten them but slicing a section out of the center of the shaft and reweld it together and have balanced.

You would need to turn, groove and respline the outer shaft inside end :

This would be under the boot on the RH END OF THE SHAFT.
