Should I send my dog to the pound??

Get some "Bitter Apple" available at pet stores. Spray it on all surfaces in the car and on furniture, anywhere you don't want him to chew. Dogs hate the taste... although a rare few actually like it! Eventually he'll stop chewing on furniture and such.

Whenever you see him about to chew firmly say "leave it!" Do this with anything you don't want him to get into. It's easy to train with the leash... just put some terats on the ground and walk past with the dog on the leash. As soon as he goes to smell the treat say "leave it" and give a tug on the leash and keep walking, don't stop. Do this enough times over a few days and you'll be amazed how fast he learns those two important words. My dogs are so programmed to ignore anything I say to "leave it" that they can literally walk past a steak on the ground and if I say to leave it, they just walk on by. This especially is important around cars and anti-freeze which is poison to them.

By the way, if you discover he chewed something there's no sense in scolding him after the fact, he'll have no idea why you're yelling at him, he might think he's being punished for sitting in the spot he's in.

I always say blame the owner not the dog, they don’t know any better and can only do what their owner trains them to do. :D

My parents just got a puppy and my mom is constantly complaining about the things it does, but they won't disapline the dog at all. I told her that it was her fault and she told me he (the dog) does not like getting disaplined. LOL

Watch the "Dog whisperer" You can learn lots from him about training your puppy.

HAHAHAHA...you should have told them YOU didn't like it either but that didn't stop them when you were a kid!

For the most part, chewing is a phase they will outgrow. Keeping them well supplied with chew toys and some basic 'puppy training' will usually avoid the unexpected chew victims.

Our 'puppy' managed to chew on a few things and almost dug through the kitchen floor once, but now has grown past this phase as a well mannered and adorable companion.

Don't send the puppy to the pound but maybe you don't want to leave it alone in the car for now. ;)

There are a lot of parts available, so no unrecoverable loss.

I do bring chew toys whenever we go in the car, problem is, he's a 4 month old pitbull who's teething! His teeth are sharp as needles! I'm not mad at him at all, and will NEVER send him to the pound.I got bitter taste spray, and it didn't phase him a bit. I tasted it myself (bad idea) and it is the worst thing I have ever tasted! Other than the chewing, which is normal, he's a really well behaved puppy, I just can't wait til he outgrows the chewing phase. He LOVES car rides. He's my little buddy.

Puppies chew. Our Border Collie Bix, would destroy the house out of boredom til we got her a companion and we did have to put her in her "cage" when we weren't home. But she was just neurotic. And fairly well trained, though sneaky.

Try putting blankets down, heavy thick ones.

 Oh please don't watch that freak! His training methods are old fashioned and are based on fear. He trains dogs to fear you rather than training them with reward and praise. A much better show to watch and an excellent trainer is Victoria Stilwell of "It's Me Or The Dog" on Animal Planet. She uses proven positive reinforcement and reward techniques that work very well.

If our dogs (4 great danes) chewed my car like they did our couches, rugs, recliners, etc. all that would be left is the tranny -- I think. White vinegar works too.
