Smelling coolant

I smelt coolant the other night while driving home from work. I looked for any leaking fluid under the car and didn't see any. I looked at all the hoses I could see with a flashlight as well but didn't see any obvious leaks. Yesterday morning I started it up and let it run for about 5 minutes and the smell was very strong towards the front of the car. I didn't smell any coolant in the exhaust.

Tomorrow I am going to look into this further and see if I can find a leak. Has anyone had a similar experience? Are there particular places on a Mark that I should be looking?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Smelling coolant

Smelling coolant is never good. The most prominent leaks seem to be the oil filter adaptor plate and the water pump(seep hole).

RE: Smelling coolant

Check all around that water crossover pipe that leads between the cyl heads by alternator, mine started leaking right where it goes into the driver side head and would lose coolant about 1 time every 3 months. Finally it got large enough of a crack/hole to spray onto the injectors and i could see it.

Now the fun part, ford D/C'd that water pipe and i am trying to find a used one that doesnt leak.
