So what speakers do you guys recommend?

I've been known to turn the volume up a bit high in my car. Of course the super-fragile JBL speakers are giving up the ghost. Any recommendations for upgraded speakers? The stock amp puts out plenty of power for me. I'm just sick of the buzzy, blown rear speakers.

What size are the door and rear speakers in our cars? 4x6, 6x9? Wattage?

Thanks,

Michael

Yeah i've been wondering too... the guy at circuit city said the Infinity 6802 would fit front and back but another store told me that the JBL speakers are self powered (Bull right) but if i use these infinity's will they sound good with the stock amp's ??? i know my dad got some sony's for his Linc Mk8 but sounded like crap... ( bad install i think )... Thanks guy's. also i wanted to hook up a sub to help the low's no earth shaking but i want more low's how do i hook an amp to the stock system?? Sorry for stealing this thread...:D :+

First off there is a separate car audio section that has answers to all the above questions.. Just search and look here: http://www.lincolnsclub.org/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=52

The speakers in the JBL system are component 5x7s. Meaning there is a separate woofer and tweeter. Aftermarket coaxial speakers will not sound good off the stock amp because the amp has a built in crossover that will send the lows to the 5x7s and the highs to the tweeter. There is an amp bypass kit they sell to allow an aftermarket headunit to power the speakers itself. Its best to just run all new wires for best sound quality.

I'm not looking for big sound, I just want speakers tough enough that the stock amp wont fry them when the knob goes a bit farther clockwise than normal. Anybody got a make and model number for some decent replacements that can stand a bit more wattage pushed through them?

I'm not even sure if they sell speakers that are compatible with the JBL system because they would have to accept only midrange sounds and most speakers sold are full range speakers. And if you crank it beyond the fairly decent level of sound that the stock system is putting out (if it is all working properly) then you will blow your new speakers since they are not getting enough power.

The easiest way to do it is to put in an aftermarket headunit, and use an amplifier bypass wiring harness
