So who has an iPhone?

I am just pissed that they signed a clause when they made it that states they will only make it in GSM for 5 years before a CDMA version can be released. I will not switch to a far worse carrier just for an iphone. I love apple in general but this was a bad move in my opinion. So all Verizon and Alltel customers must wait 5 years.

It is not like they are offering it to anyone but Cingular anyways?! In 5 years this phone will be way out of date... shelf life for phones is 1-2 years tops.

Personally, I'm waiting on the Meizu M8 MiniOne, due out around the first of the year.

Preliminary Specifications of the Meizu M8
Dimensions: 105mm x 58mm x 11.8mm (H x W x T)

Processor: ARM11 667MHz+

(much faster than Iphone)

Display: 3.32", 16600K, 720x480 pixel resolution, Touchscreen TFT LCD

(now, this week, changed to a 3.41" screen. Resolution far superior to Iphone. However, the M8 is NOT currently Multitouch like the Iphone)

PC Interface: USB 2.0 Ultra Fast Data Transfer

Flash Memory: 4, 8 or 16GB of built-in basic Memory

(Iphone only offers 4 and 8 GB)

Operating System: Windows CE for Meizu M8 (Based on Windows CE6.0)

(Windows, instead of Apple mobile OS)

Video Playback: AVI, MPEG-2, RM(VB), MPEG-4/H.263/H.264 at 30FPS

Camera: 0.3+ MPx camera on front, 3.0 MPx camera on back. Supports auto-focus, no flash.

(Iphone has one 2.0 MP camera. The M8's 0.3MP camera is for videophone conferencing)

Battery: 1500 mAh Li-ion

(Iphone is 1100mAh. NOTE!! Iphone batteries are BUILT in, not serviceable. Must be returned to Apple for batteries to be installed, for a fee. ALSO, batteries will only recharge about 300 times(so I've been told), so will only last approx. 12 months) (M8 batteries are self replaceable)

Support For:
  • GSM + SCDMA Networks
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • Wi-Fi
  • TV-out
  • Line-out
  • Video Conferencing
  • USB Host / OTG
  • GPS (Add-on)
You can place ANY working sim card from any other sim phone and have instant service. You are not locked into a 2 year $60\month Cingular contract.

Additional Features:
  • Light sensor allowing the phone to automatically adjust screen brightness in accordance to the lightning in the environment.
  • Tilt and movement recognizing sensor that will allow it to auto-adjust screen orientation in accordance to tilting. It can also recognize movements (ie. shaking), a feature which can be used for games.
A note to potential U.S. & European customers:
  • Meizu are currently having problems acquiring necessary cellphone licenses in time, and that they may release a non-phone M8 where cellphone functions can later be added with an add-on.
(if needed, add-on expected to be cheap)
  • The current pricing for the 4, 8 and 16GB models are 2000, 2500 and 3500 CNY respectively. That is approximately 260, 330 and 460 $USD.
(Note that the 16GB M8 is expected to be $140 less than the 8GB Iphone, without a contract!)

Processor: ARM11 667MHz+

(much faster than Iphone) Much faster? Like 17 MHZ faster? Either way, it runs Mobile Windows! You wont see the speed!

Also, no one knows the terms. Its a 2 to 5 year - there are conflicting reports. Also there will be many more iPhones out between now and them with updated features.

Also you can use the iPhone on other networks - if you do the activation trick. There are even a couple using the iPhone on T-Mobile in Europe!

I do like the video conferencing though, that would be fun.

But my favorite quote is "Apple built a solid phone with a few great features versus having many weak features. I would take a handful of strong features any day!"

The Meizu is cute, but at the rate they keep changing things it will never go into production!
