So, You Want To Put A Blower On Your Car...

This is what happens when you go to the bank to get some cash for the weekend with a blower on your car. It happened while turning into the bank driveway. Poetic justice.

Was it a factory idler bracket the broke or one of the mounts on the blower bracket? Hard for me to tell from the pic

The idler pulley is a improved Vortech bit. I believe it is the 3rd or 4th one that has been on the car in the past few years. The pulley ripped itself out of the Vortech compressor head unit bracket that mounts to the engine block

Damn :( You have a ton of probs with that blower setup. Didn't the blower disintegrate not too long ago?

Are those things made in china or something?

Hope you get it all fixed up.

How many miles did you put on your car after all that work was done?

Aw, Man! That's terrible... hope it isn't too bad.
You may have helped me make a decision though..

I never liked that vortech pulley drive design.

It's too late for shoulda coulda woulda .... but there is something "cool" about OEM blower belt drive ;)

Thanks, Guys. It will get put back together. But, I really need to get to the bottom of why the car has had the idler pulley go bad and replaced just about every year. This is getting a little ridiculous if you ask me. The one that is in the picture was put on the car this past January, according to Ryan.

Ryan has a call in to Vortech, to see what they will do about the defective parts. The head unit bracket is junk, and obviously the idler pulley. I think I stopped the motor in time to save the oil line from being ripped apart by the serp belt.

Have to wait and see if there is any more damage. It looks worse than what it is, I hope

Here is a picture of the bracket and pulley. About $275 for both parts from superchargers online.

Stopped by the shop, and spoke with Ryan with IE to see how he did with his Vortech rep. He did very well. Vortech has stepped up to the plate, and is shipping all the parts needed on Monday, to get The Mark back on the road - No Charge!

Injected Engineering also stepped up to the plate and will do the work at a reduced labor rate! :) :)

My hat is off to Vortech, and Injected Engineering for making this right!

Not many companies out there willing to keep their customers happy. They restored that belief with me today that they are stand-up companies, willing to help a old man fall in love with his hobby again.

the last time i had a blower idler pulley break for the 5th time, i took the blower off and put a turbo in it is place. lol i feel your pain....

Update - Ryan called and said that the long stud bolt that goes through the Vortech bracket, idler pulley, and into the engine block managed to strip the threads in the engine block.

They are going to helicoil the engine block, and put the thing back together.

The alternator and t-trim took a hit, but they think they will be ok.

Can you imagine what would of happened if I was doing 120mph at the drag strip and this happened?

Crap, I was doing maybe 10mph pulling into the parking lot when the pulley locked up.

The parts are in, and the idler pulley Vortech sent is totally different than the one that locked up on me.

Aric is going to load up the manual shift tune in the car, and test it to make sure it is working properly for the track when I race at SSHS10 on November 6. No more leave it in drive for me at the track.

If all goes well, I should have the car back tomorrow. :)

Mike- does this mean that you are going to put your left foot into training for manual shifting?? LOL

lol Charlie :) NO! The daggum car is supposed to shift itself! :) I am only doing this because it seems that my WOT manual shifting the trans is better than the automatic shift schedule that is in the car now. All I have to do is remember to shift at 6k rpm... twice... :) lol more sticky notes for the dash board

Went to see the progress today. Miller said he will have it running before he goes home today.

The helicoil went well, but he could not use my spare serp belt in the trunk. He had to send for a new one and trade my spare for the next size larger belt.

That said, apparently, the idler pulley must be larger too.

Here are some nasty camera phone pics.
