Spark plug boots installation

Hello all, I have an 01 LS V8 and roughly 3 months ago the spark plug boots were replaced to the tune of $540 at a local dealership. However, the problem that I was having has returned, due to having to spend almost a half hour trying to get up an icey hill. Towards the end of this ordeal the engine started to sound very strained and does not sound good at all now. It sounds the way it before I had the boots replaced, sputtering along when the gas pedal is pressed. So, my question is how difficult is it to DIY? I'm not the mechanically inclined type, but willing to take on the task. I have found out that the boots don't cost much at all, so why go back to the dear and drop another $500? Any help would be appreciated.

It all depends on how easy it is to get the to spark plugs. I've never been under the hood of an LS so I can't say. If you can get easy access to the plugs (normally you have to remove the air intake at a minimum) then it should be a 30 minute to 1 hour job at the most. Again though, that's just a guess.

I'm sure there are others around here that have done it or know more info though.

it's likely not the boot - but the common issue with the valve cover gaskets 2000-2002.

The gaskets allow oil to seep into the spark plug wells and cause the coils to short, ...etc

The gaskets are $35 each, coils are $45 each and a couple of bucks for plugs. The dealer charges around $1200 for the entire job.

It is a DIYer - but it's an all day affair - not hard, but very difficult to reach some bolts.

WOuld this cause an occasional miss when idleing? My 2000 V8 seems to have an occasional miss...

Does the 2000 have COPs like my Mustang does?
