Speakers

My 1994 T/C speakers (4) are toast. It really is annoying since I spend about 2 hours a day in the car.

I looked around online for some help but have not had much success.

Anyone know shortcuts to speed the project up?

::wtf::

Thanks for any help!

RE: Speakers

5"x7"/ 6"x8" should fit nicely.
Are you doing it yourself (or with a buddy) or having a store do it?

RE: Speakers

I will be doing it myself.
After reading some additional information, I can pop off the speaker screens in the rear and save some time.

Not a bad time saver! Have you ever replaced speakers in this type of car?

RE: Speakers

I've replaced rear deck speakers on a 91' Continental before which was pretty easy since the grille just pulled off. I've never done it on a TC though.

Be careful with what speakers you replace them with. If you get some nicer speakers, the stock amp won't be able to power them and you won't have any bass. I'm not sure what stock amps usually put out, but it's probably something like 15 or so watts rms (if I had to guess.)

RE: Speakers

I pulled the speakers and found that I have a blown sub. I called the dealership and they do not make this part any longer. :(

Do you know where to get one of these parts other then a junkyard?

May have to go aftermarket?::wtf::

RE: Speakers

Thanks. I found this place called the Speaker Exchange located in FL. Their number is 813-237-4800. They will repair the speaker and ship it back for about $50 big ones.
I also found this other outfit that will sell you a sub that will fit for $40. The catch, he is located in BFE and does not take cc's. I need to send a check and then he will send the product. His number is 713-862-2747.

Hope this helps others in a bind... I am running with FL.

RE: Speakers

Hey Grand,

i pulled the woofer this weekend and hit Circuit City and they sent me to Tweeter. I bought a 6 inch woofer with the same height and hole pattern. Pretty cool with no drilling. It fit just nice.

I had it back in the auto in no time.

Not to bad knowing there are other options available without paying a dealer.
