Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've enjoyied reading the shared information on this site for the past month and decided to register. I've owned 98 LSC for 2 years now; I just turned 200K miles on this auto. On Saturday I turned the key and got nothing. The lights come on , the horn blows, the radio play, but it won't crank. I assume it is the starter, however, before I change it I would like to know if it could be something else.

I am glad to be on board!

Have you tried to start it in neutral instead of PARK? Could be Nuetral safety switch on side of tranny. See if you have voltage at starter...go to top of Electrical Forum for a link to repair manual/electrical diagrams.

No clicking sound or crank should point towards starter....

This would be one of the last symptoms. First you should have clicking on a weak starter solenoid or it will mostly be just one single click/clank.

This sounds more likely. Do this....push the shifter all the way up into park, make sure its all the way into park. This is common. Also, like Bud said, turn the key on, shift into Neutral and try to start.

No click or any starter noise most likely means no power going to the starter, which means that they power isn't getting through the neutral safety switch, or it isn't even coming out of the ignition switch.

I don't think Gen 2s have an ignition switch... at least none like a gen 1 that is for sure.

Welcome!

I would check the battery cable terminals. Second suspect would be the starter solenoid. I had one go bad on my '93.

gen 2's are funny when it comes to the battery, everything may work fine, but not enough juice will cause a no start. but since it isnt making any noise at all when you turn the key, do what was mentioned try pushing the shifter into park harnder, maybe it isnt up all the way. or the starter may be completely dead.

My brother had this problem with his rice burner a couple years back. In his case it was his distributor.

Earlier this week I asked about my car not starting. I checked all the fused and relays. Since then I tried to start it several time with no luck. Tonight I turned the ignition 3-4 times and it started. I shut it off and restarted it again. 15 minutes later I tried to start it and now it won't start. Any other suggestions.

Thanks!

Sounds like you "primed" the fuel system enough to get it to start. I bet you're loosing fuel pressure so its not priming the system enough to start.

Cycle the key on/off about 4 times (waiting and listening for the fuel pump to prime for 3 seconds each time) then try to start it.

The crankshaft position sensor is located near and behind the air conditioning compressor pulley.

This sensor has nothing to do with the starter motor circuit, but if the starter motor cranks the engine, and it still won't start, unplugging and plugging the sensor back in often gets it started.
