starting bad

My 93 cranks over a lot before it will come close to starting. I changed the passenger side o2 but am having troubles getting to the driver side. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.
thanks zack

RE: starting bad

Zack,

Have you checked fuel pressure? Did you have a fault code or other indication that the O2 sensors were the source of the problem?

One possibility (verfiable with a fuel pressure gauge) is that the the pump (or regulator) lets fuel pressure bleed off when the pump is not running/engine turned off.

An easy test (although not foolproof) would be to 'cycle' the key to the run position and off a few times before actually cranking the engine. If the engine starts properly after three or four key cycles, the indication would be that fuel pressure is being lost when the engine (and therefore the fuel pump) is shut off.

Okay, all this may be jumping the gun a bit; do you have fault codes? Low fuel pressure?

Good luck!

RE: starting bad

no codes every now and then a light comes on and it goes away in a few sec. I just got a new fuel pump maybe 2 months ago it is the 255 lph pump from soupercoupeperformance.com

RE: starting bad

Did cycling the key as described above make a difference in the starting? Have you been able to find out what code is in memory?

RE: starting bad

Wouldn't be an O2 sensor. Low Fuel pressure would be a likely cause for a slow start. Since you replaced the fuel pump with a 255, maybe there's a wiring problem (loose connection)?

RE: starting bad

Since it sounds like a fuel issue, I would suggest a fuel pressure regulator. But to be sure, you need to do a fuel pressure test and a test for leak down.
