hey, my car when i stat it cold from time to time will have a weak idle. I don't have any check engine lights but I'm going to assume that I'm going to need a new fuel pump or fuel filter soon (i believe im up for a new fuel filter) i have records that my fuel pump was replaced at like 50k under warranty or somewhere around there. i got 112K on the clock now. I also sometimes notice a slight power loss from time to time.

sometimes ill mash on it and it will rip rip the tires, other times ill get a mild launch. i also have a conical with no heat shield as of now, just something to keep in mind.

oh yea and it would do the weak idle before teh chip or intake... so its unrelated.

Try spraying the MAF with a good electronic spray. NOT WD40. Radio Shack has some that works. Let it dry naturally...do not wipe it. The wire is very fragile. If you have stuff you spray onto your filer you might have overdone it and coated the MAF. You don't need a lot of that crud in the filter.

More than likely it's the Idle Air Control Valve, an inexpensive replacement (<$20.) Pain on 1st gens, easy on 2nds.

You should really go thru the car with a total maintance program on changing plugs, wires, filters (air & Fuel), fog IAC with Seafoam before plug change.
Right now you haven't told us anything that would not be affected by the lack of just proper maintance.

sounds like a very good idea :)

whats seafoam? i have a new air filter, just did an oil change, the plugs and wires look newish.

the fuel filter will rob power right, if its going?

i didnt spray anything on my filter...

Add this by taking a tube and connect to your PCV line and run engine till half of can left. Let it sit and then take the car out and run the engine up there to get some of the desolved carbon out. Read directions on can. It's available at most of the chains.
