Steering Column

I know this has probably beencovered before. As a matter of fact i am most sure of it, so I appologize for not finding it.

On my Mark the steering column over extended. As i recall it had the cable installed by the last owner to presumably stop this.

At this point the column goes up and down but not in. If i push the button in that direction i dont even here the motor attempting to move it. If i push the button to attempt to extend the column i hear the motor momentarily tyr to move the column.

What are my options at this point?

Thank you very much.

Keith

If the column is over extended, you should be able to move the column in any direction like is is very loose and not properly connected to anything. Also there is likely to be some 1/4" or so ball bearings balls on the floor. It sounds to me more likely to be that the potentiometer that controls the extend/retract function has died. If in fact it is the potentiometer, those are obsolete parts and the only likely place to get one is a junk yard. And even that is not very likely - as they will want to sell you the whole column.

i didn't know there was a potentiometer in there. sounds to me like the multifunction switch might be bad.

#1 option? forget about it and drive it.
