Steering sounds loose / thunking

Ok folks, here's a fun one. I'm going to the garage to do the jack-up, wheel wobble test here in a few minutes (6 and 12, 3 and 9). I have a feeling it's the tie rods because with the car off, I can turn the steering wheel back and forth and I hear a thunking with each change in direction of the wheel, feels a little loose. On top of it, when I'm out driving, usually turning corners at low speeds, but occasionally just from a stop or even coming to a stop and going in to reverse I'll get a little thunk from the front end.

Regardless - how much - best and worse case scenario - do you think I'm looking at for tie rods and an alignment? Not looking forward to this... let me know! Thanks.

Someone please remove this thread - after re-reading it it's the stupidest damn thing I've ever written - thanks.
