Steering Wheel Removal

RE: Steering Wheel Removal

1. Center front wheels to the straight ahead position.

2. disconnect the battery ground.

3. WAIT FOR AT LEAST 1 MINUTE FOR THE AIRBAG MODULE BACKUP POWER TO DISCHARGE.

4. Remove the beauty plugs (2) on the back side of the steering wheel.

5. Remove the two airbag retaining screws.

6. Disconnect the airbag connector and remove the the airbag. DO NOT CARRY IT WITH THE FRONT TOWARDS YOU & DO NOT PLACE IT FACE DOWN ON ANY SURFACE!

7. Disconnect the speed control electrical connectors.

8. Remove the steering wheel retaining bolt.

9. Install a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel.

Be careful you don't get any wires caught in the puller.

The pullers are available at most any auto store for around $10. - $20. It is a two bolt puller with metric bolts.

To reinstall, follow instructions backwards except you don't use the puller. Just line up the wheel, check the wires comming through and use the bolt to push the wheel on to the mount.

Now that's what I call a helpful walkthrough. ... Filing away for future use... Thanks Mr. John, and welcome! :)

Yep, pretty much. :) For safety sake....ALWAYS turn on the headlights AFTER disconnecting the battery, this will drain every bit of power from the entire vehicle assuring that you won't blow your head off with the air bag.
