storing my mark 8 for 1 year.

Hi, Im new to the site and need some info. I live in N.J and plan to store my 98 mark with 70000 miles for about a year. What should i do to prevent any damage or potential problems from letting it sit. It will be started ,not driven at least once a week and it will be covered. Any help would be great. Thanks.K

Fill up your tank all the way, but stabil on in it, change the oil, put some sort of moisture absorbent bag inside the car also. Will it be stored inside or outside? If inside I would put the car up on dollies or something to get it higher off the ground. Might want to get a car cover (ever a cheepo $40 one will be fine) and get the car on a trickle charger. You shouldn't have a problem!

Starting it once a week and allowing it to reach operating temps will do the most good. Fuel stabilizer and a trickle charger are good ideas. If you could move the car each week to a different place on the tires - that would help the tires from developing flat spots. With a cover and all the rest, you should be fine. Make sure to check the antifreeze for sufficient freeze protection for your area.

Welcome!

I'd leave the air ride switch on, or at least turn it on every few times that you start it. I think these systems need to cycle every once in a while (when you start it) to keep working properly.

I don't know about NJ, but here in Ohio if you left a car outside for a year, covered or not, mice and other little critters will try to nest in the engine compartment. While they're there they will also chew on some wiring and hoses.
I've found that by placing common moth balls in net bags around the engine compartment the critters stay away.

Thanks to all for the advice. I appreciate it. I want to put pictures of the car on as soon as I can figure how. Dose anybody know someone who might be interseted in a pampered adult driven 1989 red, fully loaded corvette? Also are there any Mark car clubs in the N.J area?

What part of jersey, i'm down by atco raceway. Theres some meets up towards delran and out in philly.

Watch the animals, they WILL make a nest, so take care of that. Winter = cold, under your hood = warm....they they are just tryin to survive like the rest of us, cant blame them. :)

If you put Irish Soap bars in the engine bay the mice/rats will chew and eat that rather then your wiring. :)

If it will be started often I would leave the air susp. on.

why will the car only be started and not driven? could the person thats going to be doing the weekly starting drive it around the block once and a while just to keep things moving. driving the car will keep everything lubed like the bearings and rear end gears and stuff. i know the oil will run down off of the parts of the rear end gears and bearings that are not setting in the oil witch could lead to a little rusting. im sure the greese in the wheel bearings and stuff like that would be thick enough not to run off but what about the little bit of water thats in probley 90% of the brake systems out there that the fluid has soacked up. it would not need to be drove far maybe just a mile or so just to sorta keep the normal cycles going that the car is used to seeing.

also another thing would be to find a way to keep the sun off of the tires if its going to set in the sun. the sun will quickly dry rot your tires if they are left setting in the sun you can buy wheel covers like they sell for motor homes or dragsters to keep the sun off the tires. even a piece of cardboard in front of the tires would work until it rains a few times and melts. even a nice thick black trash bag slid over the tires woudl help keep the suns UV rays off of the tires.
