Strange Idle

In title only.
I don’t think I have enough info to get answers, but I'm hoping to be proactive.
A strange thing happened today while I was at a stop light the Idle pulsed hard (the car was wanting to move forward) several times. I went to neutral and then back to drive and it stopped pulsing. I had no other problem all day with about 6 hours of city driving.

I know this is vague but what should I look for first? or should I even worry?

This is the car I use for work and need it to be reliable.

It could be the early stages of the IAC(Idle air control valve) failure. Stop and get some Seafoam at Advance Auto or other chain and follow its instructions for Cleaning out the carbon deposits in your intake. Use the hose from you PCV suck the Seafoam in. let it sit for a while, and the go to where you can really safely open her up. You should see lots of smoke during all this. Some time this helps as it's cleaning out our intake components that get carboned up. Its a $7.00 deal that can't hurt.

The throttle (TPS) usually don't fail, but when they do it should be rather abrupt, not incremental.

Mine does it too occasionally. Same symptom. Haven't addressed it yet as it's not chronic... (98 LSC).

Check and double check your trans fluid...

when mine gets low I can feel what can only be described as the "AC cycling on and off"... and it will "push the car against the brake as you describe".

I presume its the pump in the tranny cavitating when the fluid level is low.

When I check the fluid level it doesnt appear to be low, but if I add a half a quart the level on the stick doesnt "INCREASE" so I'm presuming/speculating again that the fluid is "re-filling" the torque convertor.

Cycle thru the gears, add 1/8th quart if your trans fluid level DOES rise on the stick, then you aren't having the same issue that I'm having.
in my case, 1/2 quart makes it stop.
