StrutMasters

I sure hope one one has anything bad to say about Strut Masters as I didn't have a lot of choice. I wanted to keep the '97 Stock and Eddie won't have front struts available until April now. So, I ordered the front struts from Strut Masters as they are available NOW. Their web site says NOT IN STOCK, but I called them on phone and they do have a few hot off the rebuild line. Nice that I do not have to send the old ones back as with the weather here, I don't know when I'll be able to do the changeover, but if a good day comes up, I'll have 'em here ready to go.....and not have to worry about 10 days to return the cores.

I'll let everyone know how the replacements go...if I remember, I'll have the camera ready too so you'll be able to watch the job happen.

As the rebuilts are available NOW and half the cost of OEM's AND Eddie says if you are going to buy any, StrutMasters is the way to go, I'll believe him. I should have them by Friday but install is all dependant on the weather as I have to use the driveway as my garage. I also got the rears and a new pump and dryer. Not replacing the dryer is cause for quick failure rates of ANY air struts.

OEM struts are NOW also, anytime. @299 each it's less that twice the money.

I hope you get what you're looking for out of them.

So far they've kept their word. Received all the parts. 2 days from order to the front door. Now if only the weather would warm up.....

Why won't Eddie have any until April? I always like to go to him when struts are needed.
Here's the answer off his web site: "Because of the constant problems with our rebuilt strut supplier, we will not be offering rebuilt struts for the '93-'98 Lincoln Mark VIII for a few months. We are working on our own rebuilt strut assemblies that will be better than anything on the market today. If you can wait until 04/07-05/07......it'll be worth the wait!":frown:

I saw that

,,,but in January, he told me middle of February...I just can't wait till then. Don't want to be stranded with front end slammed.

OK, yesterday it was was predicted to be warmer - AND IT WAS! Drove over to my son's and we got started about 9:30AM.

Replaced all 4 bags and the air pump. The new air pump came with an electric plug with wiring about 3 inches too short and the locking tabs broken off. Called StrutMasters and told them I wanted to cut old plug off the core and solder it on the new old. After an apology, he said no problem to my answer to the problem.

That turned out to be the only problem to the received parts. I had the usual first time problems...how to get air lines out of the valves and "You mean that this HUGE bag is supposed to go into THAT little space?", it went pretty well. I had a major leak at the front left (Drivers) air valve, but after re-setting it, it was fine.

We completely finished about 5:15...that included picking up the tools and trash, so I don't think that was too bad.

Had no problem whatsoever removing the nuts from either front strut...I has PB Blasted them for 2 days in a row prior to the job. Having air tools really didn't help much in this job except for removing/installing the wheels. Just wrenching worked pretty good.

Actually, the old bags look pretty good...never could find the reason for the leak in front. Driver's side has a few wrinkles, but I really couldn't tell. The only times it would leak down overnight was when it was below freezing. With 115,000 + miles, I wasn't gonna mess with them...replace everything at once. Total cost of the job....$751 with the $25.00 core charge rebate for the compressor/dryer.....plus our 7 1/2 hour of labor. I'd rather say that it was 7 1/2 hours of experience!

If any problems arise in the future I'll let ya'll know.

After driving the car now for several months, I can say I am delighted with it. The ride is better than it was when I first got the car in 2000. I think it had 87K 0n it then...120K now. I did replace the rear shocks and mounts a few weeks after I replaced the struts/bags.

So unless anything happens, I will not be adding to this thread in the near future. Hopefully only another blurb after a year, then 2 years have passed.

From what I hear Eddie is using the Strutmasters now. That must be a good sign for the company. Keep us posted.

I used Strutmasters on my '95 and I think the car drives great. Better than the air suspension?, its a tossup BUT for the price difference, the coil conversion is the way to go.

I have nothing bad to say about Strutmasters because I ordered the kit for my 95 Lincoln Mark 8 and had it converted and it is one smooth ride.... I am happy I got "converted"!

I think most of us prefer to stay with our air rides as it's a better suspension than the coils.
My '98 has the air ride and the '95 has the coils. I dont like the way the '98 sits high when parked because of the air ride. Around town driving, I like the coil conversion better, its IS smoother and having the piece of mind that my nose wont go in the weeds nor will my ass kiss the sky is priceless. Thats the good part about the coil conversion BUT there is another side. On the highway the car's front end feels real bouncy when taking on a small hump or whatever, for high(er) speed driving, I like the air suspension better. I may or may not convert the '98 but that depends on how much trouble I have with stock suspension, car only has 16k miles so it should last awhile. I do want to know how to manually adjust the ride height though.
