I finally bought my supercharger, intercooler, bigger injectors, heavier duty internals and engine block, Cobra intake. etc. Well, actually I just got the whole 03 Cobra Motor, brand new, and the transmission which is a 6 speed, and clutch and limited slip differential with 3.55 to 1 gears.
And no worries about smog certification! Or broken internals at WOT because the motor wasn't designed with force feeding in mind. Nope, last Sunday I went and bought yet another pair of 03 Cobra Bilsteins, only this time I bought them pre-installed with the right nuts and no drilled out shock mounts. The shocks were used though a little bit. They had put a few miles on them at the factory. But that's ok, I know they are perfect now.
Actually, I bought the entire 03 Cobra. It is one helluva car. Lincoln needs to build us a luxury version though, as I sure do miss the comforts of the Mark VIII, until I mash down on the gas! When that happens I feel an instant rush as I run her through the gears, pinned in the sport bucket, Eaton supercharger whining away like a giant floor polisher, exhaust rumbling, and tires squealing, with a great big grin on my face. Sometimes I can't hold back and just bust up laughing. It's a great feeling,
And what a relief, I don't have to stress over the screwed up smog laws in California or worry about the internals of the Mark VIII's motor not liking the force feeding of extra atmosphere, I just get in and go with 360 RWHP currently and a lot more horses just waiting to be cut loose for very little cost. With a pulley, exhaust, cold air, chip, it should easily release 500 RWHP on pump gas.
I still love my LSC, don't get me wrong, but now the pressure - the need for speed is satisfied. The Mark can do what she does best, look gorgeous and classy and comfortably transport her occupants in style on more relaxed outings. And I don't feel the need to make her something she is not, and wasn't intended to be. Nor do I have to spend $7500 to $18,000 to supercharge the Mark, the latter figure being the cost of doing the job right.
The Cobra is Metallic Dark Shadow Gray, has Cobra logos on the floormats and even has a cargo net in the trunk. The best part is the headlight switch - you have to pull the knob out just like the old days! No auto on/off, no auto dimming. Yup.
And the car corners like it's on rails, very neutral, very precise - not too stiff. I'm very happy with the car, words don't begin to convey just how good it feels to fire it up and head out on the highway, lookin for adventure...
