Surprised no one complained about gas prices yet?

Some of us drive a LOT!

Over here were at the highest gas prices EVER.

Premium is at $3.80 a gallon regular is at around $3.50 for crap and 3.60 for shell regular.

So I remember a lot of us complaining about $3 gas... but $4.00 gas is here...

This certainly makes me re-think my driving habits and my car purchases...

There is NO way in hell I am going to buy another car that averages less than 26-28mpg.

Has this influenced you at all??

Tommy you drive like 60k miles a year... this has got to be a huge deal?!

What good will it do to complain??? The news has shown that is now starting to change people's driving habits tho...

we have a total of 8 trucks on the road everyday 3 of them are 7.3L diesels and 2 are 6.0's we have an average fuel bill of more than $1,000.00 a week if u include my personal vehicles. Gas prices have gone so far out of hand that I just dont complain anymore. We keep raising our prices and for the most part our customers don't say anything does anyone care about the cost of fuel anymore. In the past six months we have raised out rates three times. Only a handfull of customers even comment about it. What has happened to people have the just given up. This is one subject that I cant stand to talk about because its makes me so mad. I have lost so much money in the past 3 years that its not even funny. Ok the rants over have a good one guys

Well we complain on here all the time :) I was just curious because the prices have never been this high before. I thankfully started driving a bit less... otherwise my $400 a month fuel bill would have been 500-600 right now.

I would love to have a fuel bill of $400 a month I think I would have a stroke. Mine is more like $4,000 if we are really busy. The price of fuel will never go down. At lease I dont think it will. I plan on adding another 2 trucks to our fleet within the the next few months and I am looking for other options right now and there really is nothing out there that gets any better mpg than what we have now. I would love to find a F-550 that get 28 mpg with a 2,000 lb service body thats full of tools. I know that will never happen. Only in my dreams

Try filling up a 36 (or more) gallon F250 diesel. Just did it today...lost $125.00. Glad it wasn'r EMPTY!!

The problem is nobody cheered for all the years the prices were low. :(

This may be a little dated, but the point is still the same...

http://www.fintrend.com/inflation/images/charts/Oil/Gasoline_inflation_chart.htm

No one was asking for the government to subsidize "Big Oil" when oil was $9/bbl - but now everyone wants to tax "windfall profits" of the oil companies.

I'm old enough to remember the salaries paid in the oilfields back in the 70's not much lower than those being paid today. There were a LOT of lean times in the energy market from which we reaped years of low fuel costs which helped maintain and grow the rest of the economy.

Now that the energy markets are 'catching up' everyone has went into panic mode demanding something be done.

I don't see how trippling the cost of a barrel of oil has anything to do with catching up... it is just profiteering from a situtaion that can not be changed in the short term.

There is basic supply and demand at play here... we're so dependant on foreign oil that we CAN'T switch to anything else. We have no alternative sources for energy... I think once we break $10 a gallon ppl will finally start changing things around. But until we hit that # we will still have to give up billions and billions to the oil industry.

The quiet killer that most of us don't realize is inflation... higher oil prices are DIRECTLY responsible for inflation because our economy is directly tied to this... i am in the international trade field... and boy are we about to see some increases in cost... most things in this country are GOING to get more expensive the cost of fuel for container ships has doubled over the last year... most shipping firms losing tons of money due to the fact that they had a non floating fuel expense...

April 30th is the day... expect to see some interesting changes at your local walmart/home depot etc... unless they manage to cut it out of their profit margin.

The nearly worthless dollar is directly tied to oil prices and the super low interest rates that we have enjoyed.

The $3.00 per gallon last year influenced me to get a motorcycle. It gets 50+ MPG and man is it a blast!!! I spent $675 in one month on gas last April. I was spending an average of $100 a week on gas just going to work and back. After I got the bike, I spent $15 a week on my commute!!! Best decision I have ever made.

Complain about what not me. After I retired in 1998 and was working in silicon valley for 6 years before I moved back up to the pacific NW in 2004 and for the first year here I was paying close to 400/month to get to and from work for fuel not to mention the maintenance costs on the car. Now it cost me 100/month in fuel and its only 12 to 20 miles round trip to work depending which direction I decide to drive around the inlet. Besides its going to take an act from congress to get the oil companies to even consider cutting into there yearly record breaking profits.

I'll tell you what eats up our gas -- Teenager "to-do" trips.
We now charge them for every little trip not on our scheduled route.

When I first started driving, we had "gas wars" where all the gas stations kept lowering their prices to get customers.

I rember seeing 19.9 cents per gallon of gas. I never put that "cheap stuff" in my car though.:D

Heck, I remember the old Sunoco Stations where you could dial your own octane. I had a little 1971 Porsche 914 and she got that dialed-in 98 octane all the time. At 79 cents a gallon that was some expensive stuff for a teen in 1975.

no big deal here.

3.00 per gallon X18 gallons...54-55 dollars
3.30 per gallon x18 gallons is 59ish dollars per tank.

Found exxon premium last night for 3.25

I have slowed down on my 60k per year mileage though.
I think I only put 49K over the last calendar year.

the good old days

the good old days

yep i miss them to.
the days when there was more lead in our gas than in our pencils.
when every fifth car was a smoker.
when you could not see the skyline in la from the skyline.
when i made a $1.65 an hour. and,
when there was free love for everyone but me.

boy do i miss the good old days
happy motoring

thats 10 to 12k miles a month. it is hard to believe it leaves much time for service work or the need for tools on that well traveled vehicle. happy motoring.

by the way with the new federal stimilus package there is bonus depreciation on capital expenditures. this 50% for tax year 08 is combined with the standard 20% to give you a total write off of 60% this year. it is a very good time to buy for your business. see your tax professional for details.

no need for exclusive business use either this is how the richer get rich.

happy motoring and investing

We cover all of western Pa from harrisburg to the ohio line. Thats spread out over 5 trucks. Our travel time is what kills. Our guys work 12 hour shifts. 6am to 6pm. Then the next crew comes on. We do commercial applaince service for several large chains of retail food sales and nursing home and everything else. Its a dam good biz but this gas is killing my bottom line. Oil changes cost more tires cost everything cost more.
