Switch will not release shift button, getting no power. What is fuse 32, 34?

The on my brake pedal switch appears to be getting no power and therefore is not releasing my shift interlock. I have a 1998 Mark VIII. Can anyone tell me IN THE OWNERS MANUAL what fuse controls this? I looked it up online and with the search function here and got different answers. In the online repair guide it said #34 15A fuse. I checked #34 it as fine, replaced it anyway. No difference .#32 was blown, replaced it, but it didn't solve my problem. Could someone also tell me what fuse 32 does?

I am trying to fix this with 7 stitches in my left thumb with a huge splint on it. Oh its also getting dark, is about to pour rain, and I rather need the car tomorrow. I took a test light to it but it doesn't seem to be getting power to the switch.

Kyle, at the top of this Electrical Forum is a Sticky on how to get to the wiring diagrams for many automobiles, including the Marks. You ought to give it a try. You CAN read electrical drawings, right?

Well this sucks the big one. Even though I replaced the $47 switch on the brake pedal, that wasn't the problem. Fuse 32 did, in fact, blow again. So I replaced it with a 30A fuse and took it for a quick drive (1 mile or so). It smells like something is burning in my trunk. I unplugged that fuse and turned on my emergencies to see if it still made a burning smell. It didn't and further more the burning smell seems like its coming a bit more from the large neon brake light.

Do those things normally draw massive amounts of current before they die? I cant take it apart tonight but I may just plug 32 in, shift into drive, unplug the 32, drive the 3 miles to school tomorrow with my emergency lights on, then try to tackle it after school. Hopefully Ill get lucky and see a burnt wire somewhere buy the ballast or something.

By the way this is the second short in my car. I have another in the pass side door that keeps fuse 26 blown at all times. Hopefully I can get my $$ back from the dealer.

Yes but those are the ones that told me it was fuse 34. Their repair manual sucks for this car. I did use the wiring diagrams to install my stereo though. That site was the first place I went.

Is the rear neon light supposed to come on when you step on the brake? The wiring diagram says no, and with the fuse in it doesn't.

I looked at it and it told me 32!! You may have missread it. Yes the neon comes on with the brake, as well as the running lights. Different brightness.
 
UNPLUG YOUR NEON LIGHT AND REPLACE THE FUSE WITH THE CORRECT AMPERAGE, sounds like your ballast is fried this happend in my 97 and it was the neon not letting me put the car in gear its plugged in under the carpet liner on your trunk lid, when opened up it will be in the upper right corner looking at the open lid, i unplugged it, replaced the fuse, drove away like nothing happend. if your neon doesnt work when you step on the brakes then you have a bad ballast leave the neon unplugged until you can afford a replacement ballst from Glitch.

Yep it appears that the ballast is bad as it didn't come on after being fixed. Thanks guys, I will update with a for sure conclusion when I can. Could someone kindly link me to where I can purchase one of glitch's ballasts.
 
You can also physically disable the shift interlock, which doesn't address the underlyign electrical problem, but it will let you get to work. Do not drive like this for long becasue the BOO does more than just release you out of PARK!
