Tach runs backward

The Tach in my '96 LSC runs backward after the car has been driven for short distance. Would this be a problem with the tach itself, or whatever rpm sensor that drives the tach? Thanks!

I replaced the tach yesterday with one from a used cluster after checking the tach signal. It works great now, and I don't have to drive in reverse ;)

........but I replaced it about two years ago and now it works fine.

Wait a minute - how could this happen? I realize the fundimentals of DC current and all - but BACKWARDS? Does it start at zero and turn counter clockwise?

....mine would run at half speed rpm's during cruise and "peg" the tach all the way around when you floored it. Then sometimes it would run backwards when you floored it. It never did the same thing twice. I bought a new tach through Torrie on Ford Parts Network. It took him a while to track one down but when I got it it had come from a GM warehouse in Kentucky and had a big GMAC sticker placed on the Ford box (LOL).

Mine would work normally up to about 2,000 rpm, then reverse direction in direct proportion to increasing rpm. Near redline, the needle would point almost straight down!
