Tachometer + instantaneous fuel economy

To start things off first...for the last month now or so when my car is shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears it would start to I would say hesistate like go vrum vrum vrum then shift. This is my first problem!!! The other day now my tachometer is not working it is like getting stuck at certain points and then I seemed to notice that when I put on my mpg average that it seems to function slower when it switches fuel mileage, like when I slow down and speed up. I feel as though I also lost some power and is not as quick and powerful as before. Can anyone help me figure out why all this is happening...I am figuring my transmission is more then likely going. I would like to know what I should focus on first to fix!!!!

One thing at a time:
1) It is very comon for the tachometer to appear stuck because the paper behind the needle warps due to the climate and contacts the needle to prevent it from moving. You need to remove the unit and lift off the needle with a fork and then reseal the overlay by pressing down on it. Do search on dashboard/peedometer removal.

2) Your gas milage average takes a long time to change so I don't really think you have any other problem than fixing your Tachometer. Do the fix and let us know further.

i'll try that but I know something is wrong now that it is sticking cause i check my mpg status all the time I drive, which is about 50 miles a day just for work!!!!, and it is defiantly acting slower than it did before this happened. could it be with my transmission maybe slipping now causing it act funny????

As for your transmission, what is the service history on it? I would start with dropping the pan, draining the torque converter and replacing the filter and refilling with Mercon V. You might be surprised in the difference a fluid change can make.

I also have suspicions of your fuel pump and filter. When was the filter changed and after that what is your fuel pressure (need to check at driving speed, and not just idle).

put more air in your tires and pay attention to the road. why do you think so many of these old dogs are still on the road. the old timers that bought them stayed in the garage playing with the puter that their car was attached to.
