Tail Light Out and On

I get a computer message once in awhile that my rear brake light is out. Sometimes it stays on and thus I have a tail light out when I check. Or it goes off and my brake lights are fine again. Must be a short.
What is the best way to clean and/or replace the bulb back there?
Thanks.

I've found it easier to just replace both sides than having to fight a intermittent one. My wife's Continental is real bad about that. It doesn't become "happy" until all are replaced.

How do you replace the bulbs? Where do your get the bulbs?
Thanks.

They are replaced from the back. Usually there is felt cardboard hiding the inside back of the trunk. Pull the cardboard back to expose the rear of the tail lights. There should be two or more half turn bulb sockets in each tail light assembly. Inside the sockets are "little" halogen bulbs. They are usually sold in pairs (Wal-Mart, O'Rielly's, etc). I never end up with a spare one!
