Taillight Center Section

Was out cruising tonight and an old guy flagged me down. Told me my taillights were out. This made me nervous, so I cut over to the shoulder almost hitting a city bus and pulled into the gas station parking lot. Turns out just my center section winked out. Has anyone ever delt with this before? Is it the whole thing that needs to be replaced, or just the balast? Anyone have any good leads on these parts? I'm not looking to spend the full price i had been quoted in the past of $1000. A nice clean used one will work too.

RE: Taillight Center Section

do you like your car stock? When mine goes out, im just going to take it appart and do something interesting with it. Not quite sure yet, but well see. I was thinking about one fo those LED scrolling reader boards that you can program to say stuff, I bet I could have a good time with that!

RE: Taillight Center Section

I was thinking of actually converting it to LED's like I did on my truck. My truck is a little different though, with 4 double row of LED's 12" long, 2 rows on each side stacked above eachother. Only thing i could see having a problem with is how bright they are. The strips from HiTech LED Products were so bright that I actually had to build a tinted lense for them so I wouldn't have airplanes trying to land in my bed.::wtf::

So I thought about pulling the lense assembly apart and doing this, but the only problem is that I would be spending aproximately $240 per strip (one for each side, 24" long) to accomplish this. Anyone ever pull these lenses apart?

I was going to ask this very thing. I just changed my base chrome light to LSC parts. I was wondering if they come apart because I love the LSC look, and was going to keep my old neon as a spare in case it went out and just change the painted part. Sometimes you can find used and even new neon light on eBay.

Well, I'm gonna try the LED thing. I know how to wire it up. I have a second light I can test it on. I'll let you guy's know how it goes.
