Subject: FW: TARGET STORES ( THIS IS NOT A JOKE )

Target Stores

PLEASE SEND THIS ALONG SO EVERYONE KNOWS THEIR DEAL!
by Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association

Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring '03 recognition
event.

We received the following reply from the local TARGET
management:

"Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the
arts, social action groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education."

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and
veterans in general do not meet their donation criteria, then
something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters and their response was the same. That's their national policy.

Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow
the Marines to collect for "Toys for Tots" at any of their stores.
And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families
of employees who were called up for active duty to continue their
insurance
coverage while they were on military service.

Then as I dig further, TARGET is a French-owned corporation.
Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET can not support American
Veterans, then why should I and my family support their stores by
spending our hard earned American dollars and to have their profits
sent to France. Without the American Vets, where would France be today?

Feel free to pass this along to whomever you want.

Sincerely,

Dick Forrey, V.V.A.

RE: TARGET is AMAZING !!!!

Target Stores vs. Veterans

Description

This email, which has slowly evolved into the hoax that it is now, started as a boycott letter sent out by a Howard County (Maryland, USA) veteran who earlier approached a Target store for a cash donation. Regrettably, the Target store had to turn him down. According to Target Guest Relations, the veteran should have been given a guideline, which clearly stated that stores did not handle requests for cash donations.

The hoax message should help one get a better idea of the misunderstanding that ensued.

Note, however, that the message has strayed from the original to include new lines with the typical hoax intent, which is to misinform and perhaps sow a little hate. Added were lines like:

“PS: Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for Toys For Tots during the holidays.”

We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that "veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education."

My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria, something is wrong atTarget. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship of an endorsement for "memorial remembrance." As follow-up, I E-mailed the corporate headquarters and their response was the same. Personally, I will NOT be purchasing anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran or Veterans in general do not meet their area of giving, then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores? Please pass this on to as many people as you know.

Sincerely,
Veterans Helping Veterans
PS: Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for Toys For Tots during the holidays.

RE: TARGET is AMAZING !!!!

It seems that the biggest snake ever found is also a fish story:

The Not-Quite-Longest Snake in the World
In a spate of international wire stories filed towards the end of December, it was reported that villagers on the Indonesian island of Java had found the largest snake ever held in captivity, a 49-foot reticulated python weighing an estimated 992 pounds. By comparison, the standing Guinness world record holder, also a python reticulatus from Indonesia, measured a paltry 32 feet 9.5 inches from nose to tail when it was captured in 1912. Dubbed "Fragrant Flower" by locals, the unconfirmed 2003 upstart might have necessitated the rewriting of herpetological history but for the investigations of John Aglionby, a correspondent of the British daily The Guardian, who raced to the scene with tape measure in hand.

By Aglionby's own measurements, the behemoth came up "well short" of the dimensions given earlier. "Indeed," he wrote in a story published last Monday, "'coming up well short' does not do justice to the disparity between the claimed length and the length I measured. If Fragrant ever extends to 14.85m [49 feet] long he will be the most mind-boggling animal on earth because I measured him at somewhere between 6.5 and 7m [between 21 and 23 feet]."

The python's handler at the central Java tourism park where it now resides — and where, by the way, business has increased 60 percent since word of the new attraction got out — attributed the disparity to the species' ability to stretch and contract, an explanation roundly rejected by experts. "Essentially, a python's body size is as unflexible as ours is," evolutionary biologist Richard Shine told Aglionby. "These giant pythons always shrink whenever a tape measure turns up." RE: TARGET is AMAZING !!!!

I had a feeling the snake story was fake, and I never believed this Target story. LOL!

For the record, TARGET ROCKS! I have never had a problem with them. I just took something back a few days ago that I got for Christmas. It was purchased in California. I take it to my local store and before I have a chance to explain, the woman is handing me $60...We're talking like 5 seconds FLAT!!! Awesome exchange policy.

Yes, it’s the best way to get at rivals; I see this kind of stuff all the time between local competitors.
