Terrible engine noise through the speakers.

There are two distinct noises emitted through my speakers since I installed the Clarion amp. I have a Clarion deck running all stock speakers. Anyway, one noise changes pitch and volume while idling as if coinciding with the fan kicking on. But I don't think it's the fan. I don't know what it could be. The other is the one that changes as you rev the engine. How do I get rid of these noises. The guy at the stereo shop doesn't seem to know either. He says that the battery could be causing it. Maybe cheap RCA cables. They actually had the RCA's running TAPED to the power cable for the amp. One guy says the amp may not be compatible with the car. Someone HELP PLEASE.

No telling what that 'installer?' did to your system. He sure didn't know what he was doing. I'd stop payment if you paid by credit card and/or tell him to either fix it or refund your money.

You need to find a reputable shop to work with. Better yet, DIY.

My brother and I moved the RCA's to the other side of the car but it still makes the noise. The guy at the shop tried a ground loop isolater but it didn't work. I don't know jack about audio systems.

Obviously, the guy at your shop doesn't either. It's awfully hard to troubleshoot long distant. It does sound like it's a bad ground as you are getting motor (ignition) noise into the radio. Maybe alternator too. Does it also make noise with engine NOT running?

It sounds like a grounding issue, I would check the ground on the amp and the headunit. Also make sure the RCA's have some sort of electrical tape at the connection on the back of you headunit, they might be grounding out as well, that you can tell by turning your volume down to almost off and see if the sound changes. If it becomes quiet with the volume then its the headunit wiring, if it stay the same level but with the volume turned down its the amp.

Good advise Matt.

i have Had this problem with radios and had to install noise filters on the ground weirs and condenser on my alternator i have had a bad plug wire do that to

OK, well the sound stays the same when I turn the volume down all the way. I figured it had something to do with the amp, but could it be the amp itself or the connections. I noticed when we switched the RCA's to the other side of the car that the noise would change as we moved the cables around the interior. sometimes the noise would almost disappear. The power cable for the amp is running next to the plug wires under the hood too. Could that be anything?

Possibly, but I think you were onto it with the RCAs. Just get another set that is of good quality and do a test. Pull the radio out and unplug the old ones and plug the new set in, then just run the cable outside the car back to the amp and plug it in, start the car and see if the noise is still there. If not its the RCA cable, if it is still there its the power cable.
