That's an expensive back window!

Earlier this month, my 1998 Mark VIII was vandalized in my very own garage!
After searching and searching I bought the back glass at a local auto glass shop for a total price of about $665.00. This was after getting quotes from $800 to $1300 to have the back glass replaced. Unfortunately, the back glass was not available at any salvage yard in southern Nevada. A yard in Pennsylvania offered to ship one, for a total cost of $435, but I decided to get it new. At least the new glass also included all of the moulding so it was goodbye to the warped moulding around the window.

How did it get vandalized in your own garage?

My roommate, a young woman, had a fight with her ex-boyfriend, and she ended up vandalizing his car first. He then followed her back to my house, and as soon as the garage door was open he and 2 of his pals rushed in and broke her back window, and then they ended up breaking my back window!

Never met her ex before, and she was just a roommate at my place. I got home from work that day and kick her out immediately, and called a locksmith over to re-key the locks.

Doesn't your insurance cover this?

No, at the time of the incident, I did not have comprehensive insurance so I am not covered. Also, my homeowners insurance would cover only an electronic item(s) in my vehicle in the garage so I am not covered there either.

With a Mark VIII, it makes sense to have comprehensive insurance, so I am adding that to my auto insurance policy.....live and learn.

Since you know who did it take them to small claims court, maybe go on Judge Judy and they can put a love triangle spin on it, lol ;)

Given the cost of car insurance in NJ and the value of my Mark VIII I only have liability insurance. The money I have saved since dropping it would have paid for the back window including the deductable.

If you know who it was, file a police report and have them arrested for property damage. What they did is a crime.
