This morning I went out to the garage, started the car and the RPM's shot all the way up to just above 2000. Any ideas of why its doing this?

Idle Air control Valve. It is a PIA to change on a 96 but it is only a $57 part. You can get it at rockauto or at your local stealer.

RE: The Mark won't idle

Thanks Max. I finally got it to idle back down by revving the crap out of it :D

But I do want it fixed for good so I'm sure I'll invest in it. Thanks.

RE: The Mark won't idle

No prob. My friend also reported this problem after leaving his original spark plugs in his car for 135k miles. Almost the same symptoms as an IACV. But I'm pretty sure you got those done.

RE: The Mark won't idle

Yes, wires and plugs have been done. Any directons or helpful hints on changing the IACV? Or would it be just as well to take it to a stealership?

RE: The Mark won't idle

If the stealership charges you less than $200 to change it. GO FOR IT! I've heard nothing but horror stories about it. It is located behind the engine. I believe my manual suggests to remove the right wiper motor to get better access to it. Obviously you'll also have to remove the air tube. But the dealership might have it listed at only 1 hr labor, so it doesn't hurt to call ahead and ask them what the "book" tells them.

RE: The Mark won't idle

$74 for the part and there saying an hour of labor so I'm having it done. Hope it makes it all better.
