The Mark's Cooling Fan Mods

Since when do fans just "come out" of the mounts at all found mounting points?

I had a similar experience years ago while on vacation... the AC gave out and the shop that "fixed it" later ended up paying for a new radiator!

I hope your Karma continues.

I know you said Aric "tested" the fan output against the Mark VIII fan on the bench, but unless he had an anemometer and test tunnel, I doubt any quantitative difference could be determined by human flow sensors. :fart

Good luck! :)

lol Yep, I am sure it was a very scientific process he put those fans through. :)

It was Wendys 2003 Town & Country minivan that the drivers side cooling fan kicked out of the lower mount, and when that happened, the top part of the fan assembly dug into the radiator and started shredding it.

There was nothing wrong with the minivan, and nobody touched it prior to this happening. The minivan was never there for service. This happened in Raleigh, NC, and I live in Atlanta, GA.

The original factory cooling system was on the van - 113k miles. A total freak out of the blue occurrence. I have never seen, or heard of this happening to anyone before.

Maybe you and Wendy should have a conversation about her watching too many Dukes episodes? :)

OK Here's the update. The Evans coolant is out, and is replaced with 100% distilled water, and a couple bottles of Water Wetter.

The Dorman Mustang cooling pull fan is out, and replaced with a Ford Motorcraft Mustang cooling pull fan.

It was like 95* out this afternoon, and I took the car for a ride in rush hour traffic along HWY 41. The highest temp I saw was 230* with the a/c on max 78*. :)

That Ulrta Gauge is pretty nice, eh, Mike? I got one for my Truck, but they don't really support diesels,,,,sold it for what I paid for it and put in the ScanGauge.....if Ford has a sensor for whatever you want to monitor, I can see it!!! Right out of the OBDII port...with the Ultra, I couldn't get EOT, BOOST, or anything....I did get coolant temp.....

Well Bud, I would rather not have any gauge in the car to keep the stock look. :) But this really did help me keep an eye on things much better than the stock gauges.

Yes Sir :) I can cautiously live with this.

Talking with Aric and Steve, they are concerned with heat soak. The IAT goes up way fast when standing, and when you open the car door, you can feel the heat rolling up from under the car.

Need to figure a way to get rid of the hot air more efficiently. They suggested removing the hood lol :)

Mike, I know that the hood I have is not appropriate for your car, but it does allow for heat escape from the engine compartment. Along that line what about having a set of louvers along the trailing section of the hood, or some other reverse scoop etc. to help get some of the hot engine air out?

You need something much more discrete than the hood..... :D

In other news, welcome to my first car.

Thanks for the suggestions. :) I was thinking about using hood heat extractors like the ones you see on newer GT500 Mustangs. I would hate to do it though.

So, in this thread only, would you say you've spent more then 5 grand trying to fix your cooling issues?

No Sir. Over $3 grand in parts, coolant, and labor is more like it.

lol JP :) I figured out a way to keep Wendy happy. I am taking her on a cruise this October :)

Here's the results of the big test! :) Went to dinner last night and drove into Atlanta on I75. This is my first try on the interstate followed by some rush hour city driving with the distilled water in the car. Ran the a/c all the way there! :)

Had the a/c set at 78 the entire way

Outside temp was 95

Like I said before, I can live with this, and am happy I can run the a/c again! :)

The air intake temp does spike way up when standing still. It will go back down to about 5-10* above ambient when moving though.

78!? Is that so it wouldn't blow hard or you don't like it cold?

Those look respectable to me. Hope Wendy asks you to go along with her on the cruise!

More of a habit setting the temp at max 78*. I do try to run it on max air during the summer though, to recirculate the cabin air rather than bring in that humid, 95* fresh air when it is just set on auto.

I am going to drive it around town today, and I hope it does as well as it did on Thursday. :)

lol what an ordeal it is planning this cruise. It is like I have to plan every minute of the week. I am going to need a vacation just from planning this vacation lol :)
