The time is NOW

allright, it's time to step up and get the exhaust finished up.

I am clueless as to what to do.

So far we have kooks headers with 3" collectors. I would like it to be flowing enough for 500+ rwhp, YET quiet enough not to sound like a dragster. I was thinking of going with a 2-into-1 muffler with 3" inlets and a 4" outlet to 4" piping through the gas tank area out to dual 2.5" piping to 18" mufflers in the back. I would also add a 4" cutout before the split into the two rear mufflers. With cutout closed it should flow ok and be very quiet, whereas with it open it would be a 4" screamer ? Any ideas ? Let's keep it Lincoln style though.

Cats or no cats?

I like the ideal of dual 3" all the way. You could use hi-flow cats if needed. I would put in a set of dual 3" electric cutouts. Then perhaps a 3" dual-in/dual-out X-type resonator/muffler such as a DynoMax 17554. Then out the back with either dual 3" DynoMax Race Bullets for economy or a pair of high end tunable mufflers such as SuperTrapps or PowerEffects. Finish off with a nice set of double wall SS tips.

RE: The time is NOW

I was in Charlie's KB mark with 3" headers and full exhaust with 2in/2out muffler and 2 end mufflers. It was too much for me. Also the pipes were really low as two 3" pipes are tough to fit around the gask tank and IRS areas. I don't like spending money on something that can be avoided, and buying two cutouts is one of those things.

RE: The time is NOW

Well, if you follow the Lincoln style, you could do the 2 to 1 resonator/muffler with a single 4" exiting to the rear. Finding such a beast may be tough, no? But still I think going to two 3" at the Y would make better sense. And I still say the tunable muffs at the rear would be the icing on the cake. That would allow you to customize the tone and torque and may eliminate the need for a cutout. The dual wall tips help the tone as well in my opinion.

RE: The time is NOW

hehe, you're not helping hehehe

The difference Charlie is that I have 3k miles on my new motor already, while you have what 100 miles ? LOL

I had the full setup on my 95 before and it got old quick.

RE: The time is NOW

Jeremy,

my '97 has the kooks headers, high flow cats, dual x, and mufflers but it sounds fine. I can still hear it in the car but its not enough so that I can't talk to someone in the car. Its only a 2.5" but sometimes 3" is too much anyhow.

Jeremi, drive mine around and see how you like the sound. I've got the tunables. I tend to leave them open (louder and more HP), but they can be closed or put somewhere in between. They were pricey though.

Give you a ride? I bet it'd be a whole lot more fun if you're driving. }( But yes, next time I see you, feel free to take her out and mess with the mufflers if you want.

RE: The time is NOW

In your situatation I would give Sharon's setup the most consideration as it allows you the multiple choices all in one packadge. JMHO :p

what are these tunables of which you speak?
