There was a drag day after all....

Well, I woke up Saturday morning and headed to St. Thomas figuring the chance of rain would be slight as they were calling for less than 1mm, and if nothing else, at least I went for a drive. Besides, it was unusually cool at 65 degrees - it was a sign from above to go to the track!

I was cruising along about 1/2 way there and who appears in my mirror - Huggybear. He had the same plan. Hit a couple pockets of rain here and there, but no problems at the track.

So here are a few observations:
- We looked like pro's cutting .529/.517 lights on our second run
- Huggybear has a Second Gen LSC and mine is a First Gen. Overall, he would run quicker ET's (usually 2 tenths) but I would run higher mph's (usually 3mph). Maybe due to slight difference in gearing.
- There were occasions where the cars could be equal. I was #411 and Huggybear was #350: http://home.cogeco.ca/~gaspeddle/St_Thomas/Equal_running.jpg
- Huggybear's best ET was a 15.018@94.1mph
- My best ET was 15.152@94.9mph
- VW Golf GTi's will run mid 15's out-of-the-box
- Mustang Mach 1's will run low 14's out-of-the-box
- Mustang Cobra SVT's will run high 12's @ 120mph(!)out-of-the-box
- The 401 is just about as exciting as the track - flow of traffic on the way back home was upwards of 140km/h (85mph)

Here's picture of us at the track: http://home.cogeco.ca/~gaspeddle/St_Thomas/St_Thomas.jpg

Here's a clip of Huggybear getting spanked by above noted Mach 1: http://home.cogeco.ca/~gaspeddle/St_Thomas/Huggybear_St_Thomas.wmv

All-in-all, a good day. But it reaffirms my motto: There's no performance problem money won't solve :)

RE: There was a drag day after all....

Thanks Jim for posting. I was wondering if you guys made it afterall. Weather sure was unpredictable back in my neck of the woods. Must have been a good time. I bet you'll be back again a few times before the end of the season.

RE: There was a drag day after all....

Boy, did we get our money's worth on Saturday!

I guess the unsettled weather kept the crowd small - we managed to get 18 runs in between 11:30 and 3:00.

This is what Lincoln performance is all about: running 15.2 with the a/c on & the stereo cranked, while the 1970 351 Mach 1 runs 15.4. Musclecar, HA!}>

It was really a lot of fun & we should try to get a bigger crowd out next time; maybe when the weather cools down again in September?
