Thermostat bad?

My car is running on the lower side of the temp gauge between the "m" and "a" and flucuates up and down quite a bit. I am thinking it is the t stat. Where is it located and how do I change it out?

Make sure your coolant/antifreeze reservoir is filled to capacity. There is a hash mark (fill line) on the reservoir. If you are low on coolant, and you do not see a leak anywhere, the reservoir cap might need to be replaced.

I have seen time and time again, the radiator/reservoir cap is the cause of a fluctuating temp gauge. :)

The heat works great, even in sub zero weather, and the bottle is full to the mark. The cap huh? I will take a look at it maybe the seal is bad. Thanks.

I've been having the same problem with my green Mark. The engine seems to be warmed up properly and I get plenty of heat. I have checked the crossover tube and there is no air trapped in the engine.

Sometimes I can see the temp gage quickly drop down and up. I'm not driving it now, but when I start driving it again, I plan on checking the wires to the temp sensor, and if they're OK, I'll check the sensor itself, that feeds the gage.

Could be a loose connection. It is just a L-shaped push on single wire connector.

The sensor is on the drivers side of the coolant cross-over tube. It is only for the temp guage.

The passenger side sensor has 2 wires and a harness connector. It is the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor for the PCM.
