This will make you cry

RE: This will make you cry

What the HELL happened? I would kill someone if I had a car down in that mess. Your right about that tear thing tho, as I'm crying for the owners of those cars.

Eh... If people are dumb enough to go race classic cars, I am not surprised that something like that happens once in a while. They'll probably restore them back not new anyways. Crashes are just part of racing.

Reports are that the grid got spread out (about 50 cars!) and the starter waved off the green and the cars at the front of the grid checked-up. That instantly started an accordian affect, but at Road America the back of the grid is unable to see the starter (crest in the track) and were like topping out in 3rd only to find lots of brakes. 16 cars were involved.

It's got to be one of the worst shunts ever in Vintage (Goodwood last year is close).

Sad... There's some goreous machinery wadded up pretty badly. The good news is that all the driver's came out without serious injuries (some broken bones).

That is the background info I saw posted on another site.

Max, I used to run with some of these high-dollar racers. To them, it still hurts, and although they are racing a piece of history, crashing a GT1 car from 1970 is no different than crashing a brand new race-prepped Viper. Now a 1970 Bud Moore Boss 302 might be a heartbreaker if it disappeared from the face of the earth, but these days, there are more "replicas" out there, than the real thing.

These are rich boys, with rick boy-toys...injuries will heal, cars will get fixed...it's sad to see so many of them piled up, but the $$$ signs pale in comparison to one Indy-chassis getting destroyed. A half-million $$ car piled into another half-Million $$ car is, as they would all say "that's racing".

It's sad to see, but it isnt the first time, and wont be the last.

One year, at a VRA event at Laguna Seca, I watched a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB/CS lose it, and leave carnage behind. I am sure it was toast. The car was only 1 of 4 competition-built Prancing stallions...pretty much a near "pricelss" car. The only thing now is...the other 3(if still in existance) are worth 1/4 more!

Leo...nice find. I do appreciate the pain and sorrow the owners must have felt.
