Time to do the O2 sensors on my 98 Crown Vic?

So I got a 98 Crown Vic... currently at 146500 miles... No CE light and nothing to indicate it needs new O2 sensors... I was going to change them out in hopes of some better gas mileage for the car... it only averages around 20mpg or so for my dad... primary driven on the freeway.

They are original O2s....

Recent smog check showed nearly 0 emissions... I mean it was 10x less or more than the average emissions... Which makes me doubt the necessity in swapping them out? Thoughts...

The O2's won't show signs of being good or bad on the SMOG print out, but if they are original, and pushing 150K, I'd say they are 70k over due! :D After 40k miles, O2 sensors will start to get "lazy" due to the build up of carbon and other crud and won't be able to send a fast signal to the ECU to say if the car is running rich/lean.

I sell O2 sensors with most of my 60-80k tune ups because you WILL get better gas mileage with a new(er) O2 sensor. I say "do it", haha, and than go watch Starsky and Hutch....*drool*.

It might be a royal pain, or it might be easy, it depends on how stubborn they are.

Might want to have a torch handy.
