timing chain

Hands down....I just did the timing chains on one of my 97 marks.
I dont see any way that the tensioners could over extend..
I had the exact same problem and the chains were simply stretched to the point that with the tensioners all the way out it was not enough to push the tensioner arms firmly against the chains....thus causing the chains to flex abnormally and wear out one area of the guides......"metal on metal"
Clanking, chattering, knocking....all sounds I heard. Doing the chains/guide arms/tensioners was the best darn thing I ever did to that car!
