Hello- I am new to this board. I hope I have posted this question in the BEST place to receive info. If the Moderator feels some other place more appropriate, please relocate and tell me where.Thanx.

My '92 Towncar Eagle Hearse is exteriorly stock.Interiorly it is customized for the riding comfort of my wife,Meg, who is the victim of spinal cord injury.

Its original tires(I believe), I wish to replace. They're Michlein P225 75R 15 XH M+S Radial. They're rated to carry 1840 lbs at 35psi..The coach , weighed by the N.J.State Police is 5350lbs.,empty.I would like to be safe with 6300-6600lbs loaded (passengers,dogs,luggage,etc.).

I MUST have a soft ride.People have suggested lite truck tires. I want a "passenger car" tread design. I cannot go to a 235, as the 225 occasionally rubs on a turn uphill, as into a driveway.

No manufacturer that I've contacted makes a HEAVY LOAD tire any longer in a 15 in. size, other than the truck tread.

Suggestions will be appreciated.Thanx.

RE: Tire Assistance Requested

Bill,

Welcome to the club. I am sorry to hear about the wife.

Have you tried looking at a place like tirerack.com? They usually have a good listing for tires, just plug in your size and away you go.

Looking at it quickly I found the following:

Goodyear Regatta 2 max load of 1874lbs

Pirelli P400T max load of 1874lbs

Continental contiTrac max load 1874lbs (I had these on a Ford Escape) they are listed as an suv tire, but I have to tell you they are great road tires no very much like a truck tire at all

It seems like most tires listed are considered truck tires for your size, but the ones above have car type tread.

Hope this info has helped you out.

I don't think the load rating would be a big issue if you're above 1700 lbs each.

I'm considering Goodyear Assurance ComforTred radials in a 235/60TR16 size for my '02 TownCar.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Assurance+ComforTred

The 235 series are rated at a 99T load index which is 1709 pounds each at 118 mph. The special construction is advertised to give ride comfort priority.

Update... based upon the advice of the installer and the recommended OEM tire size, I went with a set of 225/60-16 Goodyear Assurance ComforTred tires.

I can tell an immediate improvement in ride quality. In a short test ride of city/rural/highway conditions to evaluate the tires and assure the quality of balance and alignment, I can say they are quiet and have an exceptional ride with good traction and handling. Interstate highway speeds up to 90 MPH indicated the tires to be very quiet and smooth. Aggressive rural highway driving showed good traction and handling. The rough terrain of the local and county roads were well tamed as the TownCar was much smoother and quieter traversing the back way home.

I think it is a good tire to match with the Lincoln TownCar.
