Who is using 245/50/16s on their mark and does it cause any problems? These ar wider but about the same height as the 225/60/16s. I need to make sure that there won't be any rubbing or handling issues.

Thanks.

As long as you have the same size on all 4 wheels you'll be fine. You may want to adjust the height sensors a little bit to lower the car maybe 1/2 an inch to make the fender gap look right. Also your speedometer will read 3.7% high. Other than that they're great.

What is the reason you would like to make this change?

edit... never mind... there is a duplicate thread on this subject...

I like the wide tire look. The ones I looked at were about the same height, too.

I have the Nitto drag radials in the rear which are 245/50/16 with no problems on my sensor lowered '93.

I have 255/50-16's on my Mark. They are a Falken ZE512 model. Got them at the local Discount Tire almost three years. I forget the mileage right off hand, but they have at least 25,000 on them. They were only about $90 apiece when I bought them.

I have no rubbing or clearance issues whatsoever. Plus they look great.

Anybody know if the fronts fit without interference?
[/div]

Tiff has 245/50/16's all the way around on the 93.

I've got stock sized fronts, and the 245/50's on the rear, and have had since I replaced my first set of Michelin Symmetry's.

My MPH is off.. 1-2MPH compared to Tiffs 94 with stock sized tires.

If your looking for a decent, reasonably priced tire, give the "cooper zeon" tire a shot.

When I had "road huggers" on the car, my best 60' was 2.15
With the Cooper Zeons my 60's feel to 2.10

The road huggers had a treadwear rating of 440 whereas the "Zeons" have a 380 treadwear rating.. it's not a lot of difference, but it did help a bit

You can put Cooper Zeons all the way around for around 550.00ish.

Is that stock height or lowered?

RE: Tire sizes 245/50/16 vrs 225/60/16

That's comforting to know. The Falken ZE512 in 255/50-16 are on my short list.

RE: Tire sizes 245/50/16 vrs 225/60/16

I've had 245 50 R16 all around with no problem or rubbing ever. It is stock height though. I do however have 22560R16 on my winter tires right now, but once spring hits, I'm going back to the 245s.

RE: Tire sizes 245/50/16 vrs 225/60/16

i have 245/55/16's on my LSC, theyre the exact same height as the 225/60's......

RE: Tire sizes 245/50/16 vrs 225/60/16

Wow...why didn't I see this sooner?

Anyway, I would recommend against it. They'll fit fine, but any 245 wide tire would be too wide for a 7" wide rim, per manufacturer specs. What will happen is that the tire will start folding over going around corners. While it probably will not be a safety issue, you will get uneven tire wear.

The widest tire, per manufacturer specs, that can be mounted on a 7" wide rim is 235.

Exactly what I just got, 235/60-16 in a Kumho ECSTA KH11 Grand Touring Summer tire. As usual, my first choice was out of stock and I was pressed for time.

RE: Tire sizes 245/50/16 vrs 225/60/16

I get 50,000 miles out of the 245/50/16's on the rear of my car
Tiff had 245/50/16 all the way around on her car.

Neither cars exihibited any form of "uneven tire wear" nor did they show any signs of the tires "folding over".
In fact the 245/50/16's showed LESS evidence of "folding over" than the stock sized tires did.

The 225's would have marks outside the normal tire tread indicating the tire WAS FOLDING in hard corners. We had wear marks on the sidewalls which looked like we were scrubbing curbs with our tires.

A set of 245 ended the folding tires and made the cars handle alot better compared to 225s.
Never tried any 235s, they MAY be the best.. I just haven't tried em

I like the wear I get and the life I get out of the 245s so I'll probably stick with them.

RE: Tire sizes 245/50/16 vrs 225/60/16

245's work great for me. No folding over or anything. Even tire wear, moreso than stock even.

Yup.. actually much better tire wear compared to the stock sized tires.
