To torque a plug

Hey everyone,
So how much torque should I apply to a spark plug?

Also while I'm at it, I am going to have to purchase a torque wrench. Home Depot has 2, one will do 10-100lbs, the other 20-250. The prices are 53 and 58, not too different, but I'd rather not pay to get both. So can you get the 20-250 to perform pretty accurate torqueing action, or would the 10-100 be better? I suppose I'd have to get the 10-100 if a spark plug needs 10-20lbs of force though. I guess that would cover doing Jerry's tranny mod, but are there other jobs in my future that require a much larger torque?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
~Kevin

?????????????????

I swear it was 7 ft lbs in my '93 manual?(At least that's what my Palm says in a service spec memo I have.)

RE: To torque a plug

Got that straight out of my 1998 shop manual (the big thick green FoMoCo ones).

I believe ya, but AllData says (for my '93):

-----------------------------------------

Specifications

SPARK PLUG

Tightening Torque 6.6-7.3 ft lb (9-10 Nm)

---------------------------------------

Now, I'm wondering why the difference? I'll check my '1993 shop manual (the big thick green FoMoCo ones)' later.

Finger tighten then turn about 1/8 of a turn with wench until snug, don't forget to use anti-seize. My DVD manual says 12-15 LB-ft

Yep, 6.6 - 7.3 lb-ft in Helms manual and CD manual. Could it be a Gen1 vs Gen2 anomaly?
